Good Afternoon !We hear you two are quite the foodies! What was a typical dinner or family meal like for you growing up in Texas?
Jenn- Ohh definitely something on the grill. My favorite dinner my family would make every weekend would be a steak on the grill, baked potatoes, and a garden salad. Simple, but delicious!
Trey- Growing up, one of the meals we had the most was steak fingers and mashed potatoes, with either green beans or broccoli.
Was music a part of family gatherings or dinners?
Jenn- Yes! We always had the radio on while we are cooking! It makes cooking more fun!
Trey- We very rarely listened to music during dinner. My Dad always like to talk during meals and have everybody catch up on what they did that day. I probably would have preferred to listen to music sometimes though. lol
Give us an example of a cooking music playlist you would put together.
Smithfield- Depends on the dish! If we do something Italian we will put it on Dean Martin pandora station. If we are grilling burgers or steak we like to have country on, so we usually do the spotify country playlists to check out all the new releases. Our guilty pleasure is a 90’s playlist consisting of Brittany Spears, N’SYNC, Goo Goo Dolls, all the favorites from 90’s pop!
Who’s the bigger foodie in the band?
Smithfield- It’s for sure a tie! Both of us are HUGE foodies. In fact, besides playing music on the road our absolute favorite thing to do is find the best local coffee shop and restaurant in each city we play.
Being a Nashvillian, what are some of your favorite dishes and where are the best places to find them?
Smithfield: Frothy Monkey- is our absolute favorite breakfast spot. They have an amazing omelet there you can add whatever meat and veggies you want and a side of toast from their own bakery with jam. Pair it with one of their lattes! Sooooo good! They also have homemade cinnamon rolls that are to die for!
Kaybobs- for fresh Mediterranean food it is our perfect lunch spot. We both love the Sante Fe Chicken Salad and we always share the sweet potato chips with mango sauce.
Burger up- One of our favorite dinner spots in town. We highly recommend the turkey burger or the Woodstock burger. For fries, the truffle oil fries are a must!
Jeni’s Ice cream- Hands down our favorite dessert in town! Dark Chocolate, Whiskey Pecan, Wild berry Lavender, and Brown Butter Almond Brittle are our fave flavors!
After playing a late show, what is your guilty pleasure food?
Smithfield- Don’t judge us, but we can get down on some PIZZA!
Is there anything that you don’t enjoy eating?
Jenn- I am not a huge mushroom fan!
Trey- I do not like coconut shavings. I like the flavor, just not the actual shavings. Something about the texture doesn’t do it for me.
What’s a typical day like for you (food-wise) when you’re at home and how is that different from when you are on tour?
Smithfield: As we mentioned above Frothy Monkey is our absolute favorite breakfast spot. When we are home, typically we will be writing in town. So we love to go there before we go to a songwriting session. The omelet or farm breakfast ( eggs, bacon, toast) and of course coffee is our go-to’s! We always try to bring healthy snacks with us like nuts or protein bars to hold us over during our writes because sometimes we don’t get a break for lunch! After our write we will hit up a Juice bar and grab smoothie or Acai’ bowl. When we get the time to cook dinner in the winter time we do a lot of crockpot recipes and soups. For summer time we will be grilling’ non stop. Kabobs, burgers, steaks, chicken, veggies, you name it!
I can’t imagine you get a lot of time to cook while you are on tour. When out on the road, who gets to pick where you eat?
Smithfield: Not at all right now. We are in a sprinter van while we travel. When we get a bus cooking will be much easier for sure. But for now we enjoy scoping out the good places in the city we are going to be in and trying the local food. It’s a team effort for sure! We are both picky on what spot, so we try to pick a place where we can both be happy!
What’s one memorable meal you’ve had during your travels? Is there anywhere that you haven’t been that you are dying to go?
Smithfield: Oh man! So many! It’s hard to choose. We’ll choose our most recent memorable meal since it’s still our minds of how delicious it was. We just went to Pensacola and this place called The Fish House right on the beach has a world famous dish called “Shrimp and Grits a ya’ ya’.” It’s life changing!!!
Dying to try this place called “Honey Grow.” It is an East coast chain that we have heard is such a great healthy food spot.
What is your favorite spice/ingredient?
Jenn- Cinnamon! I love the smell and the taste! I add it to so many different dishes savory or sweet it works with both!
Trey- Oooh, I love just about anything Italian, so I guess garlic and basil. I’m a sucker for anything lavender too!
pumpkin cheesecake shooters
Aside from your passion for food and music, what’s the one thing that really keeps you ticking?
Jenn- Living an active lifestyle for me! It helps me do everything in my life so much better. I get sick less often, I feel more energized, it truly keeps me going!
Trey- I’m huge on family, so I would say spending time with them is definitely one of them. Also, I love to workout and focus on living a healthy lifestyle, with a healthy diet. Gotta feel good to do good!
You have a single “Hey Whiskey” that was released last year and your partnered with Texas-based Rebecca Creek Distillery, so what’s your favorite whiskey drink?
Smithfield: We love what they call a “Texas Ranger” whiskey cocktail. It is so simple! All you need is fresh squeezed lemonade and a shot (or two lol) of whiskey over ice.
Besides touring and your single, what are some other things fans can look forward to from you this year?
Smithfield: drum roll please…… NEW MUSIC!!! We are so excited to share with our fans the new music we have been working on for over a year. Can not wait for them to hear it.
Finally, If you could have a drink with one person, who would it be and what would you have?
Jenn: I’d love to sip some wine with Faith Hill. She is my musical hero, and huge part of why I got into country music. I’d love to sip a glass of sweet red or Riesling with her!
Trey: I would love to have a drink with Johnny Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls. He’s the guy that inspired me to start writing music, and I would love to pick his brain for a while about his creative process and career. As for the drink, it would be an ice cold local stout beer.

ABOUT SMITHFIELD:
SmithField was founded in 2011 with a dream as big as their home state of Texas. Comprised of vocalists Trey and Jennifer, SmithField took the stage by storm with their memorable music and stunning harmonies. After one year in Nashville industry executives began to take notice and SmithField began to open for established artists including Eric Paslay, Scotty McCreery, Jana Kramer, Dustin Lynch, Brothers Osborne and Craig Campbell. Mixing the heavily rock influenced background of Trey and the classical country tendency of Jennifer, SmithField creates a contemporary country sound that’s different and compelling.
