Producer, guitarist and songwriter Billy Joe Walker Jr., 64, died today (July 25). As a songwriter the native Texan had cuts with Eddie Rabbitt, John Anderson, Trisha Yearwood, Tanya Tucker, Billy Currington and Jerrod Niemann among others. Walker produced projects for Bryan White, Travis Tritt, Pam Tillis, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnutt and Collin Raye. Walker, a masterful guitar player got his start after he moved to Los Angeles doing sessions with Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard and the Beach Boys. He later moved to Nashville at the urging of Jimmy Bowen working with Dixie Chicks, Ray Charles, Randy Travis and Hank Williams Jr. to name a few.
