Listen: Lucinda Williams Releases “You Can’t Rule Me”

Singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams stands up for pride, dignity and perseverance in the newly released “You Can’t Rule Me”, the opening track off her new album Good Souls Better Angels.  Set for an April 24, 2020 release, Good Souls Better Angels finds the multi-Grammy winner addressing domestic and socio-political issues of our day with bold, forthright commentary and an urgency unlike anything she has ever recorded.

Earlier this month, Williams set the tone with the brazen “Man Without A Soul”, where she holds nothing back in a haunting and unsparing critique. On “You Can’t Rule Me”, her long-time band – guitarist Stuart Mathis, drummer Butch Norton and bassist David Sutton – come out of the gate swingin’ with raw electric blues and attitude that bolster Williams’ riveting vocals.

Good Souls Better Angels was co-produced by Williams, Tom Overby and Ray Kennedy, and recorded here in Nashville.

On March 14, 2020, Lucinda Williams will perform on a special Live From Here With Chris Thile broadcasting live from The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The broadcast is part of Kennedy Center’s third “Direct Current” celebration of contemporary culture. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment and the festival’s theme focuses on female creators. Buy TICKETS Here!
