BREE released her second album New Skin today on Werewolf Tunes. The energetic Indie rocker took a more serious tone on her second album looking inward and facing her inner demons head on. “My first album, All American Girl, was straight ahead rock and roll inspired by rockers like Eddie Cochran, Pete Townshend and Mick Ronson who first made me want to pick up a guitar. With New Skin, I bared it all and went much deeper with my emotions. Growing up in a strict religious cult in Oregon, I was suicidal as a teenager. Damn I’m Being Me Again is about the indecisiveness that ruled much of my life and am still working through today. Happier Place is me talking to my seventeen-year-old self when I was abandoned by my family and homeless. Writing New Skin was very therapeutic for me.” BREE says of the album.
The lyrics in New Skin read like a diary of BREE’s troubled youth: “I was bumming smokes and snortin’ coke/ I stole shampoo from the local Bi Mart/Too broke to wash my hair/And I was too damn high to care.” revealed in Happier Place.
The project was recorded in Nashville at Ronnie’s Place and Bob Ezrin’s Anarchy Studio, New Skin features ten songs written by BREE including Damn I’m Being Me Again, Broken, I Wonder, Happier Place, 18, Do What You Wanna Do, Free, You’ll Be The Death Of Me, Perfect and New Skin. Produced and engineered by Justin Cortelyou (Paul McCartney, Phish, Taylor Swift, Alice Cooper, Ke$ha), all tracks were recorded by BREE (vocals/guitar), Mayrk McNeely (upright bass) and David J Castello (drums/percussion).
Raised in a religious cult in Oregon, BREE was abandoned by her family and homeless at seventeen. She eventually made her way to Nashville where she has performed at local venues including the Basement East, Five Spot and Marathon Music Works. Bree has done four U.K. tours supporting The Supersuckers, The Parlotones and The Lottery Winners to rave reviews. After a show in Bristol, Uber Rock Magazine said that BREE was the best support act they’d seen in 20 years.
