We are really excited about your new music…can you tell us a little about it? Yes, new stuff is coming! I am not sure on the exact date, but it will probably be coming out sometime next fall.
Did you write most of the songs?
I wrote two of them and I there are a bunch of other great songs. I haven’t had anything out in the last couple years, so I had a chance to hear some great songs and stick them in my back pocket. I’m very happy with the outcome so far.
What’s the song selection process like?
It’s difficult. It has to be something that you can relate to on a personal level somehow before it takes a hold in your brain. Some songs really have to grow on you, so you do the “definitely no” pile, the “maybe” pile and the “definitely yes” pile. Then we will listen to the “maybe” pile again and get rid of some of those. There’s quite a lot to it.
What has changed in your life between this album and the last album?
Gosh, you know, I don’t think my sound has really changed, I still sing the same. Nothing really musically has changed. I had a lot of fans telling me that they missed country, so I kind of leaned in that direction. A lot of the songs were songs that affected me personally or emotionally, so hopefully everyone likes it.
Are there going to be any special appearances?
Yes! I’m really excited about it. Right now we are in the process of “my people will call your people and then my people will call you back.” You know how it goes. But yeah, I have several guys that are going to sing with me on a couple songs, so it should be fun.
Tell us about your big summer tour you are kicking off…
Well, we are always out there beating up the road. We do about 80-90 shows a year, so we are just staying busy.
Anywhere that you are really excited to get back to?
I think everywhere has its charm. We are going to Maryland this coming weekend, so I look forward to eating some crab cakes!
Lightning Round: Ok, let’s talk about a few of your favorites in Nashville. Breakfast: Oh gosh, I don’t get out much. I cook a lot, so I eat a lot of meals at home. But there’s this little cafe in Brentwood called the Perch or First Watch.
Favorite place for date night: Stoney River is always good. The atmosphere is really nice!
BBQ: That’s a good question. Probably Famous Dave’s. It’s always consistent.
Is there anywhere in Nashville you haven’t been that you would like to try?
I definitely want to go to the Catbird Seat.
