If you’re like me you’ve always wondered where you could get a frittata at 2am, and now you have your answer. It’s not a diner, it’s The Diner. The Diner just opened this past Friday and is now the second option in downtown Nashville offering food 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Diner has a classic retro diner vibe with a modern touch. White and black tile are accented by bright reds and killer views. Taking up six floors at the corner of 3rd and Demonbreun, it’s still a work in progress.
The first floor is like a soda shop. It has large plush black booths, expansive white counter, and a pastry case. The elevators take you up to a bar area on 2, seater dining on 4 and 5, while 6 is a large bar area over looking downtown with sushi and an oyster bar. The kitchen is on floor 3.
Although open only just a few days and still working out the kinks, our experience wasn’t bad or missing anything. Everyone we ran into was super friendly and helpful. Knowing that you’re adjusting through the learning process with them, makes it more fun.
Of course we headed straight to the top floor. The menu is limited, but purposely planned. Our breakfast appetizer turned out to be the Nashville Roll. Sushi at 9am is excellent, you should try it. Princes Hot Chicken with a Sobro sauce was a nice pairing of hot with a bit of sweet.
Breakfast consisted of a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese and a frittata with potatoes, onions, peppers, spinach and Gruyere cheese.
We also had a Nutella Waffle with fresh fruit. The Nutella was warm and spread nicely. It was the perfect compliment to fresh blueberries and strawberries.
The men’s room did have a full size urinal. You just don’t see that nowadays and it was a treat (sorry no pictures here)
Everything was very good. It was a little on the pricier side, but an excellent option to have in Nashville for late night or upscale diner food anytime. It’s good to have this new amenity in our growing city. I’ll imagine you see me again up on the sixth floor.
