Restaurant Review: True Southern Flavors at Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ

I am a big enough fan of barbecue, that I own a smoker, so we were hoping for some great bold flavors when we recently visited Jim ‘N Nick’s in Cool Springs located right outside of Nashville. Our first impression of Jim ‘N Nick’s was to notice how sparkly the dining room looked. It’s a comfortable space featuring a combination of booths, tables and a bourbon bar.

You can not start a great meal without these delicious, sweet, cheese biscuits. And oh my goodness are they good!

Jim ‘N Nick’s is true-to-form barbecue in its menu styling: You pick your meats and your sides, just as you might at any ‘cue joint. We couldn’t make up our mind what we were going to order, so we just chose a little bit of everything. I recommend ordering a bunch of things and sharing family-style. Great options for starters included deviled eggs, onion rings, and a bar-b-que quesadilla.

DEVILED EGGS-3 halves of our Southern-style stuffed eggs.
ONION RINGS- Giant onion slices, breaded and fried.
BAR-B-Q QUESADILLA- Smoked mushrooms, jack cheese, onions, bell peppers, pico de gallo, sour cream and your choice of any of our smoked meats.

On Tuesdays (which is the day we went luckily) they serve a tasty collision of two delicious cultures. The slow-smoked tradition of the South wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. We sampled the fried catfish taco, brisket & hot link taco, and beef brisket taco.

Fried Catfish taco- U.S. Farmed Raised Catfish, golden fried, topped with coleslaw, pico de gallo and tarter sauce
Brisket & Hot Link Taco- shredded jack cheese, diced red onion, and a little serrano pepper to spice up your day!

BBQ heaven soon arrived at our table when our sampler showed up. This BBQ is so good you will slap your grandma! It was almost also too beautiful to eat. Of course, we did eat it, and it was delicious. Smoked-meat perfection.

The are some sides on the lighter side, a welcome departure from the heavy meats, and these aren’t your average barbecue joint’s sides.

Fresh Seasonal Fruit

The show stealer for sides was the Cole Slaw. It was as some say, OFF THE CHAIN. Speaking of off the chain, the Collard Greens were phenomenal!

We also had additional sides of baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and potato salad.

It’s hard to imagine any better BBQ than Jim ‘N Nick’s serves up. They have spacious restaurant and is perfect for large groups.
