Faith Communities as Sanctuary

This event is a public training for people of faith about how to respond to the needs of refugees, immigrants, Muslims, and vulnerable communities currently under threat. This training will provide tools and frameworks for individuals and communities discerning Sanctuary or solidarity work in the Nashville community. Participants will learn about the history and sacred roots of the Sanctuary movement, how faith communities can offer support and hospitality for people facing deportation and detention, and what’s at stake in this form of public witness.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: The Reading Room is on the 2nd floor of Vanderbilt Divinity School and is wheelchair accessible via elevator. Enter through the door closest to the Central Library (ground level, facing 21st Ave.), take a right, and follow the hallway and signage to the elevator. Take elevator to the 2nd floor, and follow the hallway left to reach the room enterance. PARKING: Attendees may park at Scarritt Bennett Center (Lots A or B, off 18th Ave.) and walk to the Divinity School. Street parking is also available along Wesley Place and 19th Ave., or in the Wesley Garage for a fee.
BUS: This location is reachable from the MTA Hillsboro #7 bus route.
GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOMS: Gender neutral restrooms are available in the building on the ground floor.
LANGUAGE: No Spanish or ASL translation provided. All handouts will be posted in the event page.
SCENT: We cannot guarantee the space will be scent-free; please do not wear perfumes, colognes or essential oils so that chemically injured community members can attend.
